Yusufari

Yusufari was part of the wider influence of the Kanem-Bornu Empire, and its location made it a key stopover for nomads, herders and trans-Saharan traders. During the British colonial era in the early 20th century, Yusufari was integrated into the colonial administrative system, while still retaining its traditional leadership. It officially became a Local Government Area in 1989 and later became part of the newly formed Yobe State in 1991. As of 2025, the airport in Yobe State is not operational.
