A Rich Past

Explore the historical roots that shaped Yongin into what it is today.

During the Three Kingdoms Period, it was the land of Baekje (BC18-AD660) during the founding of Baekje, and during the heyday of Goguryeo (BC37-AD668), it was the land of Goguryeo. Since the founding of the Republic of Korea (1897-), Yongin-si has been the most populous city in the country for nearly 20 years. In 1995, a typical urban and complex rural city in the metropolitan area with a population of about 240,000 was promoted from county to city in 1996, and the population increased rapidly as it became a satellite city of Seoul.
