The distance by water (by the shortest route) between the Taureau Reservoir dam and the confluence of the Matawin River upstream (north side of the village) is 33 km. This vast 95 km² body of water offers numerous natural attractions (bays, beaches, surrounding mountains, forested surroundings, islands) and numerous water activities. The upper reaches of the Matawin River, coming from the southwest, meander through the village of Saint-Michel-des-Saints from south to north.
