Discover Palashi

Palashi (Bengali: পলাশী Palāśī), historically spelt Plassey, is a village in the Nadia district of West Bengal. Palashi (PAW-lah-shih) is best known as the site of the famous Battle of Plassey on 23 June 1757 between the last independent ruler of Bengal, Nawab Siraj ud-Daula (1756-1757) and the British forces under the command of Robert Clive. This battle marked the advent of British rule in the erstwhile Bengal and in India as a whole. The grounds where the historic Battle of Plassey was fought are today marked with shrines, obelisks and memorials to the fallen generals and soldiers of Siraj ud-Daulah.
