Nalhati is a remote village in the central region of West Bengal and one of the 51 Shakti Pithas. It is believed that Parvati's throat (Nal) fell here, when Vishnu severed her body, with chakra, to stop Shiva from the Tandav nritya. That is why the name Nalateshwari is used as a synonym for the Peeth. It is about 15 km to the north of Rampurhat. Those travelling along the Panagarh-Moregram Highway will come across the town of Nalhati just after crossing the Brahmani river.
