Methana is located in Greece, with highly interesting of archaeological monuments, Byzantine churches, lovely villages and imposing a "dormant" volcano. The peninsula is littered with over 30 volcanic domes and numerous sulphurous thermal springs of volcanic origin. Neither the city nor the peninsula gained significant importance in antiquity, although settlement has been documented since the Mycenaean period.
