Igbesa, an Awori Kingdom was said to have been founded about 800 years ago by Akeredun, a hunter. He was the first to settle in Igbesa kingdom. He reportedly migrated from Isheri, being guided by a mysterious raffia mat, containing sacrificial items, which floated down from Isheri until it sank near the present site of the town. Folklore has it that Igbesa, as a name, originated from "egbe osa" (near the lagoon), which the first inhabitants used to describe their new home. Using a car or bus, from Ikeja under bridge, head towards Abeokuta express way to Sango Otta. From Sango Otta, board a Bus or take a car going to Atan. From there, head for Lusada, from Lusada you take another car or bus to Igbesa. Travellers by road coming in from the border with Benin republic can reach Igbesa via Badagry, then Agbara, then Atan and Lusada as above.
