Dharwad or Dharwar city is in northern part of Karnataka state, in South India. It's known for its numerous world class universities and colleges. Dharwad and Hubli are twin cities of Karnataka. While Dharwad is educational and cultural centre , Hubbali is commercial hub. These cities have municipal corporation by the name Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC). Dharwar was part of Bombay Presidency during British rule of India. Dharwad is known as the 'Oxford of Karnataka' due to its universities and colleges.
