Dezhou is a city of 5.7 million people (2019) in the northwest of Shandong, along the border with Hebei. Dezhou City is a transportation hub at the intersection of the Beijing-Shanghai and Dezhou-Shijiazhuang railways, and an economic, industrial and trade center in China's Hebei-Shandong border area. Dezhou City, referred to as "De" and called Ande in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city in the northwest of Shandong Province and the alluvial plain of the lower reaches of the Yellow River. As of the end of 2022, the city's permanent population is 5.6 million.

History

Dezhou is located in Shandong Province and has a long history. In ancient times, it was affiliated to Qi State, Lu State, etc. It belonged to the Qi State during the Warring States Period, and it belonged to the Qin Dynasty during the Qin and Han Dynasties. During the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, Dezhou was part of Shandong. At the beginning of the 20th century, it became part of the Republic of China and was incorporated into Shandong Province of the People's Republic of China after 1949. Since the reform and opening up, Dezhou City has made significant economic progress. The climate in Dezhou, Shandong Province is a temperate monsoon climate with four distinct seasons.
