Gonçalo bathed by the bucolic Tâmega River or its majestic baroque churches and its beautiful and magnificent S. Gonçalo bridge. The discovery of great personalities such as Amadeu de Souza-Cardoso, Teixeira de Pascoaes or António do Lago Cerqueira is equally irrefutable. You will be exploring the villages, mountains, rivers and waterfalls of this park, which has a kind of scenery which is hard to find anywhere else. Beside the landscapes, fauna and flora and the numerous wild rivers which form some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Portugal, it has a rich culture, history and heritage. Its monuments go back to the time before the birth of the nation, its villages still retain their peculiar culture and traditions, and villagers still live as their ancestors did.

Take a stroll through the commercial and political centre of 18th and 19th century Lisbon. It was in this direction that the city expanded from the hill of the Castle. Get to know the downtown area (“Baixa Pombalina”) accurately rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake, which had its epicentre in the Arch of Rua Augusta and kept Carmo on its feet, despite the catastrophe. Have a close look at the wonders of the Portuguese baroque in the Church of São Roque and move up into the 19th century in Chiado. As distinguished and bourgeois as its cafés, theatres, bookshops and art deco façades that stretch through Príncipe Real, the city’s trendiest quarter, and the amazing S. Pedro de Alcântara Garden. Just across the street, take a look at the popular Bairro Alto, which completely changes at night. We stop for a few minutes at the picturesque Rua da Bica and then at the Adamastor viewpoint to feel the Tejo estuary in all its splendour and we go down towards the National Parliament.
