Saijo is one of the three major sake brewing area in Japan. Within a roughly one-kilometer walking distance from Saijo Station, there are seven sake breweries. You can efficiently tour all the breweries in only two hours while listening to the English speaking guide's explanation about the history and sake of each brewery. You can also sample the sake recommended by each brewery. You can taste various types of sake, such as Daiginjo, Junmai, and Cloudy sake. Some of the breweries do not usually offer sake tasting on weekdays, so it is very valuable to be able to sample sake from all the breweries. If there is space available on the day of the tour, you can register up to 4 hours before the tour starts. Please come and find your favorite sake! *According to Japanese law, the legal drinking age is 20. Participants under 20, including infants, are not allowed to join. *This is a tasting tour. In Hiroshima—a city known for Japanese sake, traditional calligraphy brushes, and a story of peace—this experience takes place in a historic storehouse at Kamotsuru Sake Brewery’s first brewery in Saijo, a space not normally open to the public. You will practice calligraphy using a special Kumano brush crafted from Hiroshima’s hibaku (survivor) trees, symbolizing resilience and peace. A bit further east of Saijo, one can find the picturesque city of Onomichi. The temples, hills and stone paths around the city create the beautiful scenery which has bestowed Onomichi the title of “miniature garden.” This location is not only beautiful, but also rich in history and culture. Within, one can visit temples such as Senkoji and Saikokuji, both Buddhist temples which provide some insight into Japanese religion and the city’s past. One of these temples is located at the top of a mountain and can be accessed via ropeway, providing a stunning view of the city landscape.
