Do you want to walk in the crater of a volcano? Do you want to touch volcanic rocks? You can if you join me on this self guided audio tour through La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone National Park, in the centre of the Catalan city of Olot. I’ll let you in on Volcà del Montsacopa’s secrets along the way. Did you know that the wider region has 40 volcanoes and more than 20 lava flows? We’ll follow a historical trail around the cater to the two watchtowers at the top and the church inside the crater itself. You’ll be rewarded with amazing 360º views of the area as you wind your way around the crater. I’ll point out the Pyrenees mountain range and the great green valleys of Olot as you go, and tell you: • Why there are so many volcanoes at La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone National Park • What happened during the last eruption here about 100 000 years ago • Why there are so many vegetable gardens around the volcano • Why there is a church in the volcano crater

If you are nature lovers and you like to discover new areas, this is the best option for you!! On this full day tour you will explore different areas, the first area with a lot of history where our guide will explain the medieval and Jewish heritage of Besalú and a second part of the day to enjoy the nature of the Natural Park of La Garrotxa, in the pre-Pyrenees area with more than 40 volcanoes none of them active for thousands of years. You will prove it with your own eyes visiting a Medieval hermitage located in the middle of the crater of one of them. Also you will visit Castellfollit de la Roca to take some photos of the Basaltic cliff and Santa Pau an small village sorrounded by volcanoes. To finish this amazing day, you will have the opportunity to have a walk or to sail at the Banyoles lake , the largest lake in Catalonia. We will come back to Girona city about 5/5.30pm depending on the traffic.

Come and enjoy a hot air balloon experience over Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, one of the most interesting volcanoes areas in Europe. A flight in a hot air balloon is a different way of travelling, float in the air, in pure peace and quiet. Enjoy the feeling of absolute freedom, perfect stillness and adventure. Ideal for nature lovers and for those who are searching new sensations, a hot air balloon flight gives you a 360º bird’s eye view of the landscape. On clear days, the views stretch from Montserrat to the Mediterranean Sea, with the Pyrenees omnipresent in the background and the dormant volcanoes below. The activity begins bright and early in the morning (between 07:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., according to the season) in Vol de Coloms facilities, next to Croscat volcano.

We will start the day with a soft hike and a visit at Castellfollit de la Roca, one of the most scenic medieval villages in Catalonia dramatically perched atop a cliffside at the meeting point of two rivers. We will continue to Sant Joan les Fonts where we will see the romanesque church and medieval bridge from XII century before , we start hiking across one of my favourite paths following 3 lava flows that have shaped the lanscapes of this region. Here we'll learn about the rural way of life of La Garrotxa. The area is simply beautiful and will put you in a zen-like mood. After the hike we will head to Besalú, the best preserved medieval village in Catalonia, where first we will have some free time to have lunch (we can book a local restaurant for you). Before comming back to Barcelona, we'll have a guided visit to Besalú where I'll show you the most unique spots of this beautiful medieval town; an authentic trip back in time!
